EU Gender Directive and Life Assurance

From December 21, 2012, the use of gender in calculating insurance premiums across Europe will be abolished. This is a result of a European Court of Justice ruling.

This means that when unisex rates become available on December 21, 2012, Life Cover for women is set to become more expensive. It will also mean income protection will become more expensive for men.

There is a window of opportunity before unisex rates apply and LABrokers recommend:

1. Women (mothers) between ages of 25-45 years of age considering taking out life insurance should do so now before Dec 21 2012 deadline.

2. Women with existing policies should review their current level of cover and the price they are paying NOW before the rates change on Dec 21st 2012.

So for females needing life insurance cover, now is the time to buy.
